We are a diverse team here at Phronetic Psychotherapy. Some of us have had previous careers in finance and the arts; others have only been therapists. Some of us are women of color born overseas, others are White men born in America. Some are in their 20s, others in their late 30s.

Our mixed backgrounds converge on a core idea: that self-knowledge—the kind that traditional therapy aims for at a steady week-by-week, year-after-year pace—is valuable, but insufficient. What a person ultimately needs is to take action. Hence ‘phronetic’, that is, the practical wisdom with which to determine one’s goals and the actions needed to attain them.

Of course, which actions to take are not universal. We tailor our approach accordingly, and have extensive experience in working with people of color, LGBTQ+ people, and people with disabilities. Likewise, we have successfully helped people in all stages of life, be they students, high-powered workers, single mothers, or new fathers.

We offer an online service that is convenient to you, and we take care of all the back-end busywork: billing your credit card, verifying your insurance coverage, and so on. We are skeptical of approaches that amount to many years but little progress, and so every session we are asking you and ourselves: what are you taking from this, what are you moving toward, is this working? In session, we bring to you the blend of techniques our experience shows us works best, and our model is always growing alongside you.

Ours is also a team-based approach. We meet routinely to discuss our work, to support each other (you are not served by a burned out or isolated therapist), and to make sure we are continuing to meet your needs as you and the world arounds us change.
