About Conny

  • I initially majored in Philosophy at East China Normal University for a year and a half. Subsequently, I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Philosophy from Ohio State University and completed a Master of Social Work degree at Columbia University. I have received training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Gottman Method Couple Therapy, Exposure Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).

As a teenager, I was deeply influenced by the TV series "Lie to Me," so I devoured many psychology books! For example, "FBI Teaches You to Crack the Body Language," a book I still come across in bookstores now. Every time I see it, I can't help but think, "It's been so long already!"

In middle school, I joined a psychology interest group, where I only remember the teacher showing "The Silence of the Lambs" and his composed demeanor. Looking back now, how precious that demeanor is! As I gradually realized that people have different personalities and perspectives on the same thing, my curiosity kept growing. That's why I chose to study philosophy first, to deepen my understanding of the relationship between thought and existence, spirit and matter, and later delved into more practical knowledge. I'm very interested in pondering and discussing questions like "Why do we live?" "Who am I?" and "How can I live?"

  • Usually, we will have several “get to know you” sessions to discover the client’s special needs and the main approach to use. I use an integrated approach (CBT, Problem Solving, Psychodynamic) to collaborate with clients. Therapy homework is an effective way to improve and maintain progress.

  • Dialectical materialism influences my belief that regardless of one's ‘current’ state, everyone is in a state of 'development,' never stagnant, always evolving, and subject to change, progress, and twists and turns. A small action today might be a significant factor in shaping the future.
