About Zixuan

  • My path to becoming a therapist was not a direct one, but something I gradually grew into. While many people seemed to find a clear direction right after graduation, my pace was slower. I explored different roles that may not have appeared “goal-oriented” from the outside, but those experiences ultimately helped me listen more closely to myself and led me to this work. My upbringing and life experiences have also shaped who I am as a therapist. I left my hometown in high school and later moved to the U.S. for college, spending nearly a decade here. Learning how to adapt, navigate change, and build a sense of safety in unfamiliar environments has been an ongoing part of my life. These experiences allow me to deeply understand clients who feel uncertain about their identity, relationships, or direction. I also bring a natural sense of attunement, patience, and a willingness to sit with people as they make sense of their inner world. Clinically, I have worked in private practice settings, providing therapy to adults and couples. This experience has strengthened my commitment to culturally responsive and trauma-informed care, and has shown me that many clients are not only dealing with present challenges, but also carrying deeper emotional experiences from the past. Over the past couple of years, my work with clients experiencing anxiety and trauma led me to pursue formal training in EMDR. This training has given me more structure and confidence in working with a wide range of trauma, including more complex presentations. My approach is integrative and flexible, adapting to each person’s needs. I don’t believe growth has to be rushed—sometimes, allowing yourself to move at your own pace is an important part of the process.

  • Working with me is often a gradual and collaborative process. In the beginning, I take time to understand your background, what you’re going through, and what you hope to gain from therapy, while also finding a pace that feels comfortable for you. To me, the moment you choose to show up for therapy is already a meaningful step. You don’t have to have everything figured out or know where to begin—if you’re here, that’s enough. I’m here to explore alongside you, at your own pace. I adapt my approach based on your needs. At times, we may focus on present challenges; at other times, we may explore deeper patterns and past experiences. I may invite you to reflect or try small practices between sessions, but I don’t assign rigid “homework.” I tend to work well with clients who are open to understanding themselves, even if they feel uncertain. Progress doesn’t always look like big changes—it can be noticing your emotions more clearly or making small, meaningful shifts in how you relate to yourself and others.

  • To me, the “best” clients are anyone willing to explore and understand themselves. I often work with those experiencing anxiety, depression, low motivation, reliance on certain behaviors or substances, recurring patterns, relationship confusion, or the impact of past trauma. They might say, “I’ve been trying, but something still feels off,” “I don’t know what I really want,” or “I just want to feel more like myself.” They may not have clear answers, but they’re open to understanding themselves and finding a sense of stability.

  • I see trauma as something that may not be fully “erased,” but rather becomes a part of one’s life story. Through therapy, the goal isn’t to eliminate it, but to help transform what once felt like an open wound into something more like a scar—still there, but no longer impacting your life in the same way.
