I work with people who feel overwhelmed by their emotions or find themselves reacting in ways they don’t always understand. Maybe you’re often anxious, easily frustrated, hard on yourself, or caught in cycles of self-doubt. You may know what you want to do differently, and even understand why you feel the way you do, but still find yourself responding in the same patterns. My goal is to help you feel more comfortable with your emotions and more in control of how you respond to them.
In our work together, I care more about understanding your emotions than rushing to fix them. We’ll take time to explore why you might be feeling the way you do, what your emotions may be trying to protect, and how your experiences, family relationships, and cultural background have shaped the way you respond to yourself and others. Some of these ways of coping may have once helped you feel safe or adapt to your surroundings, but you may still find yourself responding in the same ways today, even when they no longer feel as helpful. As you begin to understand your emotions more clearly, you may not have to fight against them all the time. I’ll support you at a pace that feels comfortable, as we make space to understand what you’re experiencing, what you need, and how you want to respond.
I also believe therapy should be useful beyond the therapy room. If you’re someone who is used to thinking your way through problems, holding yourself to high standards, or simply pushing through, we can work on what happens when that approach doesn’t quite work for emotions and relationships. Depending on what you need, I draw from CBT, DBT, and Positive Psychology to help you recognize unhelpful thought patterns, navigate intense emotions, and reconnect with the strengths and coping skills you already have. My hope is that you leave therapy not only with a better understanding of yourself, but with a clearer sense of what you can do when life gets difficult again.

About Elaine

I have always been curious about why people think, feel, and behave the way they do. It was not until I first studied psychology in college that I realized many of these questions could be explored and understood scientifically. That discovery sparked my interest in psychology and eventually led me to pursue a career in counseling. Having lived and studied in the U.S. since high school, I have also experienced many of the transitions that bring clients to therapy: uncertainty about the future, navigating between cultures, questions of identity and belonging, and the challenges of adapting to new stages of life. These experiences have shaped the way I understand clients—not only through a theoretical lens, but also through an appreciation of the real-life complexities of cultural adaptation, career decisions, family expectations, and personal values. I have worked in diverse clinical settings, including outpatient medical clinics and rehabilitation centers in New York. These experiences taught me to see mental health within the broader context of physical health, relationships, work, and everyday functioning. They also shaped my practice to be structured and goal-oriented while still allowing room for exploration and depth.

Individual sessions are typically 50 minutes. I generally recommend meeting weekly at a consistent time, especially early in the process, to create continuity and momentum; frequency can be adjusted based on your needs and goals. During the first one or two sessions, we will explore what brings you to therapy, your background and current concerns, and whether we are a good fit. I will be open about that and help with referrals if we both believe another provider may be a better match. I view therapy as a collaborative process rather than a one-size-fits-all treatment. Together, we will make sense of your experiences, identify patterns, and explore ways of responding differently. My approach is structured and goal-oriented while leaving room for reflection and exploration. I may offer psychoeducation, practical tools, or exercises between sessions, while always respecting your values, autonomy, and pace.

I like to work the clients who have a good sense of self-awareness. They may come to therapy saying, “I understand why I do this, but I don’t know how to change it,” or “I don’t even know what I’m feeling—I just feel stuck.” They may be seeking a better understanding of their emotions, healthier relationships, greater self-compassion, or simply a life that feels more like their own. I especially enjoy helping clients turn insight into meaningful, practical change.

I view professional growth as an ongoing part of being a therapist. I am currently completing training in EMDR and continuing to develop my skills in couples therapy, while deepening my knowledge of trauma, cross cultural mental health, and identity related concerns. I value learning through consultation and conversations with other clinicians. Because each therapist brings different perspectives and ways of working, collaboration helps me challenge my own assumptions, expand my clinical thinking, and ultimately offer clients more thoughtful and responsive care.

I’m particularly interested in two areas of the evolving mental health landscape. The first is cross-cultural mental health, especially the experiences of people navigating identity, belonging, and life decisions across different cultural environments. As global mobility continues to increase, I believe these experiences deserve greater attention in mental health care. I’m also interested in the intersection of mental health and AI—both its potential to improve access to care and support clinical work, and the ethical questions it raises around privacy, professional boundaries, and human connection.
